The Waste Cycle

Elementary

Description

During this episode, students will be shown different cycles of waste and discuss their implication on our planet. The video explains what happens to recyclables, waste and compostable matter when it leaves our homes by analysing the cycle of a plastic bottle, a banana peel and a candy wrapper.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This short video is excellent to support science and social studies outcomes related to properties of materials, recycling and sustainable production and consumption. It would also be great as an introduction to explore one’s ecological footprint and citizenship when looking at taking action in regard to climate change. The clip would also make an excellent introduction to an Earth Day activity such as a schoolyard clean up.
