Description

The Global Ocean is an information-based book with beautiful illustrations. It explores the interconnectedness of the world's five oceans and their influence on the planet as a "global ocean". The book also discusses human impacts on this precious resource while highlighting the many ways people are working to heal the oceans, offering a hopeful message to the challenge of climate change.

Recommendation of how and where to use it

The Global Ocean provides an in-depth look at the importance of the oceans and human impact.  The book is best suited for use in the upper elementary or middle school Science classroom. Though not suited for a read-aloud in one sitting, depending on the age of the students, it could be read over several days or the reading assigned in sections to groups of students.  The book's content addresses outcomes related to climate, habitat, ecosystems and diversity of living things. It could be used in conjunction with World Oceans Day in early June or World Water Day in March. A teaching guide is also available with five activities related to the book's content.
