General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This book supports sustainability and science outcomes related to recycling and reducing plastic pollution.  The emphasis on re-use provides an excellent introduction to lessons that examine responsible consumption and the role of everyday materials in our lives.

The story could also become the basis of an interesting action project where students cut off the bottoms of 2 litre plastic bottles to grow vegetable seedlings which are planted in a small demonstration garden where the tops of the bottles are used as miniature greenhouses.  The project could promote recycling and local food production as examples of activities that everyone can do to help protect our planet.
