Description
Climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer warns of the dangers and chaos ahead from the mass migration of refugees forced to flee their homes because of climate change. The number of people affected could reach tens of millions by the end of the century. This program explains that these people do not want to leave their homes. It examines the various ways in which climate has forced them to flee and the problems this will cause.
Oppenheimer's key message is that the best way to avoid the looming problems from mass migration is action to reduce climate change and providing measures (mitigation and adaptation) that will help people stay where they are. In the meantime governments should be planning how they will handle migration from known climate change hot spots.
