This comic book takes students through an exciting journey following the story of three young people that can travel through time. Leslie, her brother John and their friend Adam stumbled upon a spaceship with special suits that gave them each unique power. Since then, they have travelled through time to do what they can to save the world in various ways. One night they descend upon the village where a little girl Lihau sits on her roof feeling helpless. Leslie invites her to come to her spaceship for a special task. Lihau joins a few other children on board, and they all whisk away to barren farmland. The children ask what is wrong, and Leslie and her friends explain the significance of the barren land. They soon learn about an enemy that has plagued humanity for a very long time now and needs to be stopped. This enemy is nonetheless HUNGER.
After reading this story, students will get a better understanding of poverty, malnutrition, global hunger issues, how it affects people in different parts of the world and other cultures, and what can be done to address hunger
This book is appropriate for use in grades 3-6. It will provide a great introduction piece to help introduce ESD issues relating to poverty, hunger, and malnutrition in a classroom health study on nutrition. Students could begin to analyze their own meal choices and assess how they may help others who do not have access to healthy nutrition or food in general.
