Description
This video portrays Alec Loorz, a remarkable teenager who crusades against global warming. Some of his many accomplishments include his ingenious iMatter campaign, and other environmental education initiatives all designed to appeal to youth. He has also successfully galvanized his community to be more concerned about pollution by teaching citizens about sustainable practices such as recycling . Alec exemplifies how youth can make a difference, and watching this film will inspire and motivate students to become more involved in caring for our planet.

Recommendation of how and where to use it
This video has an accompanying education module with lesson plans focused on climate change. The resource could be used to build scientific inquiry skills by supporting students in analyzing evidence and forming opinions about global warming. Stewardship skills could also be enhanced by having students consider the effect of their own actions in response to the locally based environmental initiatives undertaken by Alec. Citizenship projects could include personal energy audits, the development of individual energy reduction plans and learning more about environmental legislation in Canada. Classes near coastal areas could also examine how their region may be affected by rising sea levels and create a community awareness campaign about the potential effects of higher water levels.
