Students play a simulation game and learn about the impacts of climate change, explore ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to climate risks
Players must complete two missions. In the first one they consider different ways that greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced. In the second, players decide on actions to take to protect each of 3 different Canadian communities from climate change impacts. Players are given a budget and must decide on which actions they can afford to invest in and successfully meet the goals of each mission.
This interactive resource is best suited for the upper elementary and middle school Science classrooms with a focus on the outcomes related to weather and climate change. It would be most beneficial to use the game after the students have gained some knowledge related to the topics and can make informed decisions. It could, however, be used before and after a climate change unit to see the growth and understanding acquired.
