Global Solutions Diary

Secondary

Description

The Global Solutions Diary showcases personal stories of climate action. It is a community-generated video library of everyday stories about climate change solutions from people around the world. The diary aims to share the voices of those working toward a better, more sustainable future while inspiring others to take action and find their roles in stopping climate change. Students are encouraged to submit their stories and watch those shared by others globally.

Using a recording device such as a phone or webcam, students respond to one or two questions provided:

  • How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
  • Who or what inspires/inspires you to care about climate change and climate solutions?

Students then follow a few simple steps to submit their stories. If featured, their contributions can inspire others to discuss climate change, share their own experiences, and get involved in solutions. The resource also includes an interactive map that allows users to view short five minute stories from specific areas of interest. Additionally, students can filter the videos by types of solutions.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This resource enables students to understand the various reasons why people around the world are concerned about climate change and how it has affected their lives. Students could investigate and compare how different regions are impacted by climate change. The videos can serve as inspiration for brainstorming ideas for a class action project that could offer solutions on a local or global scale. Additionally, students should write a script and record what actions they are taking in their area to combat climate change.
