Description
This learning activity has students list, discuss, and demonstrate knowledge of the most common modes of transportation, identifying the most efficient ways to deliver freight.
Students will:
- watch a video explaining different modes of transportation and their characteristics (air, sea, trains, trucks)
- draw a concept map depicting how to get goods from one place to another
- listen to a scenario that involves different forms of freight delivery
- develop their own scenario on the most efficient way to deliver the freight
- draw maps illustrating the mode of transportation to different locations and a picture of their favourite mode of transportation
- share their results and explain why they chose the different modes of transportation
General Assessment
Recommendation of how and where to use it
This activity helps identify the most efficient ways to deliver freight. It provides an opportunity to discuss how carrying more weight by rail could help reduce road congestion and lower the carbon emissions caused by road freight transport. It can also open a discussion regarding food and products we use daily, from where they are made to where we can buy them, and help students consider the number of freight journeys required to sustain our daily eating and consumption of goods.
