Exploring Climate Change in our Communities

Field Activity

Elementary, Middle

Description

The resource supports an engaging and highly personal reflection and writing activity for students.  They explore an outdoor area that is special to them and look for changes that may be related to climate change impacts.  At the same time they consider climate change solutions that can be adopted by the community.  As they explore the area, they work through a  list of provided reflection questions to help them organize their ideas. Students are also encouraged to take photos and/or record audio clips of things that stand out to them.

After the outing, they return to the classroom to write a poem using their reflections and photos/audio clips as inspiration. Their work can then be shared online.

Teachers are encouraged to complete the activity themselves prior to introducing it to the students in order to share their writing with the class
