In this activity, students will watch a video explaining electrification and its goals, then discuss in pairs what challenges might impact reaching targets for EV ownership in Canada. After brainstorming possible solutions, they will rate their suggestions using three criteria: desirability, feasibility, and effectiveness. Guided by a handout and worksheet, each group will assess technological innovations to see which ones could best encourage electric vehicle use. Finally, they will share ideas and brainstorm other technologies that could help B.C. meet its goals of reducing carbon emissions.
The resource brings attention to a current and important issue playing out in real time and will support exploring energy use, climate change and technological applications in sustainability in the secondary classroom.
