Commit2Act is a web and mobile app that enables students to make climate-friendly decisions in everyday life. It guides students towards climate-friendly lifestyle choices, measures the impact of these choices, and connects users to a community of like-minded students.
The app is easy to use and allows students to track the impact of their daily actions. Students self-report environmentally friendly actions and see where their ranking stands against others on the group leaderboard. For students to submit an action, they will be encouraged to attach a photo related to the action they are logging in to the app to gain the most points. For example, if students try to log that they ate a plant-based meal in the app, they will be prompted to submit a photo of their food to verify the action. Each action has a calculation to determine how much carbon dioxide has been saved. Students can compete with their peers, school groups or other schools to do good by committing to actions that help save the planet. They can test your knowledge with quizzes.
Educators are able to create groups for their students, allowing their students to challenge one another and other classes on a leaderboard which promotes engagement with the application. Students keep track of their progress and get inspired to take action with a community of global changemakers. There are a variety of ready-to-use lesson plans to accompany the Commit2Act app.
This app is an excellent tool to introduce students to the impact of our daily choices on climate change. The lesson plans and additional resources accompanying the app provide the groundwork for engaging in action and environmental stewardship opportunities. The lesson plans connect discussion and climate action across different subject areas with students. Teachers can adapt the content to fit the needs of students and the school community. To create bigger change, students can also learn more about and support organizations advocating for policy and systems change around each of these actions.
