In this outdoor activity, the students will learn that all living things need a healthy habitat that includes food, water, shelter and space. They will also learn that climate change may threaten the delicate balance of nature.
The students will role play caribou and the habitat components to demonstrate the impacts of climate change on the Arctic tundra. Follow up questions are included for a discussion in order to understand what the students observed and learned.
This outdoor activity fits very nicely with the science outcomes related to ecosystems and climate change. The activity would be best implemented after the students understand and are familiar with climate change and its effects.
