Climate Change 101 is the first video of the Keep it Cool Classrooms educational resource that tackles different but important aspects of climate change. This video introduces students to the basic facts of climate change, its causes and how Canadians are affected by climate change. The video is informative and engaging, featuring graphics that enhance comprehension of the content. It focuses on Canadian issues, specifically examining how climate change affects the health of Canadians. Additionally, the video addresses the important topic of environmental racism and its impact on vulnerable communities. It includes questions at the end of the video to encourage further reflection and discussion.
Keep it Cool Classrooms is an educational resource of five videos that tackle a different yet important aspect of climate change. The resource aims to help students build climate literacy and resiliency, understand carbon emissions at a personal, community and global scale, learn coping strategies to deal with heavy climate emotions and leave with practical tools for taking meaningful climate action.
A brief welcome video introduces students to the content and outlines what they can expect throughout the series. The resource can be completed as a class, or students can complete the lessons individually. The resource provides a student worksheet to jot down notes about the video; each video is approximately 10 minutes long, with three questions at the end to provoke thoughtful class or small group discussion.
The publisher recommends watching the videos in order, but they can also be mixed or blended with other lesson plans on climate change.
