A project of LSF
In this activity, students will be introduced to topics related to human rights and poverty. Students will build structures with blocks representing important aspects of a good life, such as home, school and friends.
Through connection to self and collaboration, students will learn about fairness and how all people face different challenges. By emphasizing empathy (kindness) and community, students will be able to imagine and build a more just world–one where everyone has equal opportunities.
This activity is a good fit for the social studies classroom to address the concepts of poverty, resources, wealth and citizenship. It could also be used to develop the students understanding of poverty prior to beginning a community service project to help the underprivileged.
