This resource is part of Science Spotlight, a compilation that informs students about climate research being conducted by science heroes from across Canada and identifies the related climate actions they can undertake at home, in class or in the community.
Students learn the advantages of working on local climate issues to make a larger impact and how the work of a research chair creates an understanding of current knowledge about a subject like climate change and shares the information with the public.

When Residents Stand Together for the Climate! compliments the Grade 4-8 Science and Social Studies units exploring the causes and consequences of climate change in addition to the curriculum outcomes related to quality of life and citizenship.
To extend the learning further, students could choose a local issue and follow the steps indicated in the resource to create a plan to address the issue. The students could then put their urban climate action plan into motion.
