What Does Recycle Mean?

Daniel Tigers Neighbourhood

Elementary

Description

In this short animation Daniel Tiger teaches young students that they can have fun while being great environmental citizens.  The class will soon be singing along with Daniel as they learn how easy it is to turn something old into something new while doing their part to protect planet Earth.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This video supports Science and Social Studies outcomes related to understanding the types of materials that can be recycled and the value of waste reduction.  The clip has an accompanying article about "Cleaning Up" that describes how to encourage young children to enjoy chores that keep us healthy.

An age appropriate project that demonstrates the value of community stewardship could have the class organize a renewal of a neglected green space.  Volunteers could work with students to pick up and reuse junk like old tires to create a new play area.  Local gardeners could also donate trees and shrubs to create wildlife habitat and shade.
