The Lifecycle of a T-Shirt

Middle, Secondary

Description

The video "The Lifecycle of a T-Shirt" explores the environmental impact of a t-shirt from the growing of the cotton seeds to the arrival of the garment in a North American home. It offers insights and statistics into the fashion industry and explains how the carbon footprint of clothing has increased over the last decade.

Linked to the video are the "Think/Dig Deeper/Discuss" sections that offer reflection and discussion opportunities to extend and solidify the students' learning.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

The Lifecycle of a T-Shirt video would be useful in the middle school classroom in order to highlight the environmental impact of everyday choices.  It could be used to meet either Social Studies or Science outcomes and generate a discussion surrounding consumerism.  It could also be used in conjunction with "Buy Nothing Day" in November in order to raise awareness.
