The Invaders: Video

Secondary, Middle

Description

This short video explores the issue of invasive species.  Focusing on the zebra mussel, the film effectively demonstrates the environmental and economic damage that can result from the introduction of this and other non-native species.  Attention is also given to the tremendous diversity and wide distribution of the group of animals known as Mollusks.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

The Invaders video supports a lesson plan by the same name.  It's examination of the zebra mussel will contribute to a broader classroom exploration of non-native species and provide an important Canadian example of this important issue.
