Forever Our Home

Elementary

Description

Forever Our Home is beautifully illustrated children's book with an emphasis on one's relationship to the land.  Written in both Plains Cree and English, the story was originally a lullaby for the author's son.  The story introduces students to the plants and animals of the Prairies and the Plains while making a connection to the environment that surrounds them.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

Our Forever Home is best suited for the early elementary classroom.  It could be used around Earth Day to help students make connections to their environment and the earth.  Another suggestion would be to use it to help consolidate the idea of respect from the Seven Sacred Teachings.  Art projects could also be inspired from the illustrations or students could create their own version of the text and illustrate its meaning for a connection to literacy.
