What's the Deal With Carbon?

Secondary

Description

The video use engaging illustrations to helps students understand the link between carbon, our increasing use of fossil fuels and the greenhouse effect.

This animation describes the carbon cycle and how it is affected by human activity. It asks and answers the questions, What is carbon? and What does it have to do with climate change?

General Assessment

What skills does this resource explicitly teach?

The video is a great study in cause and effect and in system thinking.

Strengths

The video is both amusing and informative, connecting the dots in a way that will help students grasp the essentials in the climate change narrative.

Recommendation of how and where to use it

The video may be used in any study of the carbon cycle and as an introduction to any investigation of climate change. It also may be used to illustrate the difference between a closed system in nature and one that is overwhelmed.
