What Does Peace Feel Like?

Elementary

Description

This uniquely illustrated book offers an answer to the question, “What Does Peace Look Like?”  The answers are provided by students from an international school in Rome and convey images of peace through the eyes of a child.  The answers represented include, “Like something beautiful that goes away but will come back”, and “like a bouquet of flowers in a happy families living room.”  As an additional feature, the book includes the word peace in approximately 150 different languages.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This book can be used in conjunction with the celebration of Remembrance Day, the study of conflict and  the integration of peace as part of a social contract with students at the beginning of the school year.  The book is a perfect springboard for students to create their own pieces of writing following the pattern used by the author.  It will also serve as a great resource in exploring metaphors and similes.
