This short video from Canadian Geographic explores the idea that plastics aren't always obvious in our daily lives. By knowing where plastics are hidden in everyday objects we can make wise decisions about reusing items or making different choices. The video shares information about items such as fleece clothing, tea bags, disposable cleaning cloths and laundry sheets while also giving alternative suggestions for items that are more environmentally friendly.
This video would work well in a unit on recycling. Once the students have an understanding of plastics and their threat to the environment, the video could be used to further clarify how pervasive plastics are in our daily lives. A follow up activity for the students would be to find other everyday items that surprisingly contain plastics.
