Plastic Oceans

Description

This powerful video explores contamination of the planets' oceans by discarded plastics.  The issue is examined through interviews with the scientists from Australia who are studying the problem.  Students witness the extent of problem and the terrible effects it is having on sea birds and other marine organisms. The program concludes with practical solutions that can make a difference.

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This video could be used to initiate an action project dealing with ocean conservation. After watching the discussion, students could organize campaigns to reduce the amount of plastic brought to their school.  The campaign could also be extended into the community with the students sharing their new knowledge with city counsellors, etc.
