Description

This is a wonderful resource for introducing young students to local birds.  It offers teachers two easy-to-implement outdoor activities that teach observation and record keeping skills while promoting a connection to the natural world.

In 'Birds by Sight and Sound' students study birds in the school yard or near-by green spaces by watching and listening.  In 'Bird Signs' students investigate other signs of bird activity.

The activities are very well supported with background information and great suggestions for planning and implementation.

Spring is an excellent time of year for students to get outside the classroom and learn about local birds.  This resource is a terrific companion to the May-June Nature Guides and the activities support a variety of core outcomes in K-8 Science.
