General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

This book supports elementary science and social studies outcomes related to properties of materials, recycling and reuse, and environmental stewardship. A glossary also provides new vocabulary learning.

The back of the book contains the instructions for making a plastic bottle bird feeder. This creative project could be used to teach pupils about removing plastic products from the environment by reusing these types of materials. A partnership with a community naturalists club could also have students learning about the birds that visit their feeders and how they can help conserve songbird populations.
