Have you ever thought about what happens to your plastic water bottle after you throw it into the recycling bin? This brightly illustrated picture book takes young readers through every step of the process until a brand new bottle emerges. The simple but effective message is that recycling helps protect our planet and is also pretty cool!
This book supports elementary science and social studies outcomes related to properties of materials, recycling and reuse, and environmental stewardship. A glossary also provides new vocabulary learning.
The back of the book contains the instructions for making a plastic bottle bird feeder. This creative project could be used to teach pupils about removing plastic products from the environment by reusing these types of materials. A partnership with a community naturalists club could also have students learning about the birds that visit their feeders and how they can help conserve songbird populations.
